A couple of options have been discussed for a KVM Forum 2011. This page will list the currently discussed options to make it easier to compare and continue discussing the options.

'''Note that nothing on this page is decided, this is purely for discussion purposes!'''
The official Call For Papers will be posted shortly, please keep an eye on this spot for updates.

== Type of conference ==
We invite you to lead part of the discussion by submitting a speaking
Two types of conference have been proposed so far:
proposal for KVM Forum 2011.

=== KVM Forum 2011 ===
http://events.linuxfoundation.org/cfp
Keep the old conference format as a KVM only event. This would most likely be a single track running over 2 or possibly 3 days. Estimate for number of attendees for this event would be around 80-100. This is based on KVM Forum 2010 numbers.

=== Open Source Virtualization 2011 ===
== Suggested topics: ==
Create a broader conference focusing on the entire Open Source Virtualization stack. This would be a multi-track conference running over 2 or 3 days. Estimate for number of attendees for this event would be 200-250 (this is a guess).

Subjects could include:
=== KVM ===
* KVM
* Scaling and performance
* QEMU
* Nested virtualization
* Management tools
* I/O improvements
* libvirt
* PCI device assignment
* Guest agents
* Driver domains
* Other relevant topics
* Time keeping
* Resource management (cpu, memory, i/o)
* Memory management (page sharing, swapping, huge pages, etc)
* Fault tolerance
* VEPA, VN-Link, vswitch
* Security
=== QEMU ===
* Device model improvements
* New devices
* Scaling and performance
* Desktop virtualization
* Spice
* Increasing robustness and hardening
* Security model
* Management interfaces
* QMP protocol and implementation
* Image formats
* Live migration
* Live snapshots and merging
=== Virtio ===
* Speeding up existing devices
* Alternatives
* Virtio on non-Linux

The format for this event could be a two track conference running over two days, structured like this (example):
=== Management infrastructure ===
* Libvirt
* KVM autotest
* OpenStack
* Network virtualization management
* Enterprise storage management
=== Cloud computing ===
* Scalable storage
* Virtual networking
* Security
* Provisioning
* Hybrid

In order to keep cost down, the ideal solution would be to co-locate the conference with another Open Source conference. If we decide to co-locate with the Linux Foundation, there are two options.
people actually use our software. We will reserve a few slots for end
users talking about their deployment challenges and achievements.

The 3rd Annual LinuxCon North America is scheduled for August 17 - 19, 2011 - Vancouver, Canada. According to the Linux Foundation space is available and fairly unlimited for our requirements, whether we decide to for for a KVM Forum style conference or a larger Virtualization conference.
proposal.  Simply mark it as an end-user collaboration proposal. As and
end user, this is a unique opportunity to get your input to developers.

Cost is lower as conference rooms are cheaper/free, and the KVM or Virt conference could be run prior to LinuxCon with no overlap.
== BOF Session ==

=== Prague in October ===
We will reserve some slots in the evening after the main conference
The 1st Annual LinuxCon Europe is scheduled for October 26 - 28, 2011 - Prague, Czech Republic. LinuxCon Europe is also co-located with the Kernel Summit (October 24-26), the Linux Embedded Conference and possibly another event.
tracks, for birds of a feather sessions. These sessions will be less
formal than presentation tracks and targetted for people who would
like to discuss specific issues with other developers and/or users.
If you are interested in getting developers and/or uses together to
discuss a specific problem, please submit a BOF proposal.

Space is limited and we would not be able to get room for more than 170 people, max, which we would probably rule out a larger Virtualization conference. In addition we only be able to get rooms for either 24-25 which would overlap with Kernel Summit, or 27-28 which would overlap with LinuxCon.
== Lightning Talks ==

Note that in addition the room cost is higher in Prague.
In addition to submitted talks we will also have some room for lightning
talks. These are short (5 minute) discussions to highlight new work or
ideas that aren't complete enough to warrant a full presentation slot.
Lightning talk submissions and scheduling will be handled on-site at
KVM Forum.

=== Independent hosting ===
== Submission Requirements ==
The third alternative would be to host the conference independent of the Linux Foundation events, which would mean we cannot benefit from the help we would get from LF, plus cost would be significantly higher.

Abstracts due: May 16th, 2011
Notification: May 31th, 2011

Please submit a short abstract (~150 words) describing your presentation
proposal.  In your submission please note how long your talk will take.
Slots vary in length up to 45 minutes.  Also include in your proposal
the proposal type -- one of:

* technical talk
* end-user talk
* BOF (birds of a feather) session
